Survival and quality of life after lung transplantation are limited by chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD). Recently, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) has formalized a definition for Acute Lung Allograft Dysfunction, with the hope of identifying acute processes before the onset of irreversible pathology. This interactive symposium seeks to convene experts in translational research to unlock how this progression occurs with evaluation of profiles of tissue inflammation in the allograft, immunologic dysfunction in T and NK cells, and the role of infection in driving this process. In developing a deeper understanding of the ALAD to CLAD pathology we will be able to develop diagnostic and therapeutic tools to prevent this change.
